Thoughts on Matthew 26

I was reading in Matthew 26 on how Mary was anointing Jesus’s feet and wiping with her hair. In verse 13 it said “Wheresoever this gospel shall be preached in the whole world, there shall also this, that this woman hath done, be told for a memorial of her.” I thought that was amazing how Mary’s action would be exclaimed along with preaching the Gospel. I reflect back on my mission and I don’t think that I ever spoke about this event when speaking about Jesus or His Atonement. But because Christ saw this act of love and knew that Mary had prepared it before Christ’s death, He esteemed as one of the greatest acts of love. In the student manual under John 12:1-8 it says “The spiritually attuned Mary had prepared for this hour.” Mary had given this great thought and was very in tune with the Spirit to know how to show her love for the Savior. Preparation is so important.

In the same chapter in Matthew 26:36-39, Jesus took a few of His disciples with Him to Gethsamane and felt heavy and prayed. I think this is an amazing indication of the character of Christ of how He prayed when He was heavy and sorrowful. He could’ve wanted to bear His trials alone but He prayed unto His Father for divine help. Even though He wished that He didn’t have to go through this, He said “not my will but thine be done.” He had such great humility that He didn’t pray contrary to the will of His Father but He fulfilled the words of prophets by being submissive as a lamb and “He opened not His mouth.” Throughout this chapter we can see how Christ fulfilled all of the words of prophet as they foretold of His death.
